Dear itslearning friends,
2013 has been an exciting year at itslearning. I’d like to share some of the highlights for us as a company and for our users – the teachers, students and parents using itslearning around the world.
60% increase in active itslearning users
In 2013, we took major steps toward establishing ourselves as a leading international learning platform as ICT continued its march into classrooms around the world. From our humble beginnings in Bergen, itslearning has grown into a global player, with schools from Turkey to the USA realizing the value of our platform.
This year we continued to establish ourselves as the leading platform in Scandinavia, as more education institutions in Sweden and Finland chose us as their partner in online learning. We also opened a subsidiary in Copenhagen, Denmark. Shortly afterwards we acquired Danish LMS SkoleIntra, making itslearning the largest LMS provider in Denmark. Acquiring SkoleIntra also bumped the number of active itslearning users up to four million.
We signed a distribution agreement in Lithuania that complements our reseller in Poland and signals a strong entrance into the markets in Central Europe and the Baltics. Across the Atlantic, one of our largest US customers, Forsyth County Schools, came online in September. Forsyth teachers quickly reported having success with the platform in social media and other channels, and we wish them the best of luck as they continue to explore the possibilities contained in our platform.
Record number of simultaneous users
This year, we reached an all-time high in terms of the number of users who were logged on simultaneously. This is significant because it shows the pervasiveness of our platform and the positive difference it makes in our users’ educational and teaching journeys. Of course, this number would not have been possible without dedicated itslearning staff members holding engaging training sessions, participating at education conferences, developing new features and supporting our users. Their efforts ensure that teachers have the tools they need to navigate the 21st Century classroom.
Over 200 employees in 14 countries
Today, itslearning employs over 200 people in 14 countries on two continents, a number that will continue to grow in 2014 as we continue to make inroads into new markets. Our organization continues to hire employees who are highly skilled in both pedagogy and the use of ICT. This will enable us to provide even better solutions for teachers and students in the future.
In 2013 we made significant improvements in the way our users experience the platform. Improvements released to date include a responsive Main Menu (the main navigation bar) which now adapts itself to the area made available by the browser. As educators and students increasingly rely on their mobile devices to access learning materials, a more user-friendly itslearning will ensure that their teaching and learning needs are met. Our ongoing investment in responsive design will ensure that all users have the same itslearning experience regardless of the device they are using.
In 2014, we will continue to focus on user experience and support for mobile devices, as well as the integration of digital content to our platform. We’ll also be testing a unique integration with Office Web Apps – so stay tuned for even more improvements!
On behalf of the itslearning staff, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
