Software update 17 November 2011

itslearning was updated on 17 November 2011. This time we've updated the look and feel, but we've got other news as well. In addition to the design refresh, learners and their supervisors can now access important information through the new person profile. We also support a new language and have interesting new integrations.

itslearning has a new look!

You've probably noticed the new colours, icons and menus already? Read all about the design refresh in this article.

Access information through the person profile

To all learners: Your assessments are now only a click away. Before this update you had to enter each course to see your assessments. Now you can simply click your name in the personal menu to access your assessments, attendance and behaviour remarks.

See your relations to other users

When clicking another person's name – for example in course lists and assignment overview – his profile opens. To make it easier to distinguish users, the profile now shows any courses you have in common, and how you are related. For example: "Frank Beck is your teacher in the following courses: History and English".

New language: Brazilian Portuguese

Olá Brasil! Our language package now includes Brazilian Portuguese. To change the itslearning interface language go to My settings >> Customise itslearning. We now support British English, American English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian bokmal, Norwegian nynorsk, Swedish, Danish, and Brazilian Portuguese.

To make it easier to follow discussions, new posts and threads will now appear in the notification content block.

Attendance change log

Teachers can now view the attendance change log. Previously, this information was available to mentors and headteachers only. You'll find the log in Status and follow-up >> Attendance >> Reports >> Term report.

CAS support

CAS (Central Authentication Service), originally an authentication system created by Yale University to provide a trusted way for applications to authenticate users, is now supported in itslearning. Read more about CAS. This service can be enabled on request.

Entrée support

Entree is an authentication system created by Kennisnet to provide a trusted way for an application to authenticate a user. It is used throughout the Netherlands and is supported by over 40 content providers. itslearning will act as an Entree identity provider so that users can access 3rd party content after being authenticated into itslearning. This service can be enabled on request.

Updated app library

The app library is revamped. Read more in this press release.

In this release we have corrected more than 50 issues. Read this document to find out more (English only).

The widened workspace is an advantage - I have noticed some of the text and images have resized and overlap on several of the bulletin boards. Jury is out on the need to change the content block colour. It would be an asthetic bonus to be able to alter the 'skin' on a personal basis. Did this update include the inclusion of an 'INSERT' option on the PAGES - err no! The learner access to assessment behaviour etc in one easily navigable place is probably the most important upgrade - well done. Discussion updates is appreciated as these are being used much more extensively now across many courses. Mainly great things, now include an INSERT function on the pages, and sort the REPORTING of statistics out - we want to be able to know fairly imediately good quality quantitative info in order to direct resources. As an admin tool it would be essential - at the moment it is anecdotal and hidden.

How about fixing the incredible long login times? What about fixing the dates for reports... it's usually showing the wrong date and doesn't notice when an assignment has been added. Otherwise I like the new design a lot better than the old one.

Yeah, how about fixing the really long waiting times? The look was okay before and now made a lot better. But the speed of its learning is still unbearable slow. It annoys me.

I have a big complaint about this update: It breaks font sizes. The line spacing is fixed at 25 pixels, which is fine if you use the default font size, but horrible if you want to use larger text. The lines all run into each other. It can't be fixed on my end without going into the code. I'm doing a find and replace to add line-height:120% in every font size span. It seems to work (in Firefox, at least), but I really shouldn't have to do that.

Hi, The new look is really nice. Although I am missing a functionality which allows me to add one file to all my different courses (selected ones). Now I have to copy them, through the dodgy drop-down menus every time, this takes quite a long time. I hope you can provide a functionality like that!
