The Training Centre for Nursing Professions at DRK Schwesternschaft Berlin e.V (BIZ) has been using itslearning since February, 2013. As a result, their courses in healthcare, general nursing and paediatric care are becoming more attractive.
"BIZ has been using itslearning to support our students more intensively during their training. They are comfortable using the internet, and we have adapted our teaching methods to suit their needs,” explains Sebastian Partsch, project manager at the Training Centre:
Cooperation and access to materials
The platform is used as a repository for information such as articles, studies, worksheets, presentations, videos, pictures and links. These can be uploaded at any time by lecturers and downloaded, printed or read online by students.
Students use the itslearning platform for mutual support. They upload their training content, achievement logs, and homework answers and share them with other course participants. They can retrieve these files in the Training Centre classroom via a Smart Board and edit them if they need to.
The platform is also used as a means of communication. Our students can invite fellow students to participate in their projects, start discussion forums, upload files or hold video conferences so that they are prepared for the next group session.
Our students use itslearning for practical work tasks. For example, the Training Centre sets small repetitive tasks aimed at helping students consolidate what they have already learnt. Using result checks they can track their progress themselves.
itslearning allows us to set questions on graphics and films, as well as hotspots in pictures, which must be identified by students in response to specific questions. For example, we ask about a particular bone on a skeleton. The students must then click on the correct point in the figure to answer the question. At the end of the test they are immediately shown a summary of their results.
Insight into how a student is progressing enables individual progress
The platform gives us the opportunity to distribute work tasks to students and to monitor their completion. That way we get an overview of how individual students are progressing and can help with any questions. We create Individual Learning Plans with some students in order to help them reach their goals.
All our students have access to the itslearning platform. Each new trainee is given a personal password to the "Learn about learning" module in the first theory block as well as an introduction to the platform.
This modern service has been welcomed by our students. They can now bring the experiences they've gathered from the internet and social networks into their studies. As a result, our training courses in healthcare, general nursing, paediatric care and technical operations assistance are becoming more attractive, transparent and modern.
