BERGEN: 27.09.2011 Educational ICT provider itslearning is set to launch a revamped App Library this autumn that will make teaching and learning applications available to teachers and students directly through its cloud-based learning platform.
Apps have revolutionised the mobile phone market by giving consumers access to a huge range of applications at the click of a button. Now, international learning platform provider itslearning is hoping to bring the same functionality to teachers and students through its newly redesigned App Library.
The App Library makes teaching and learning applications available to teachers and students directly through their learning platform. They can access new apps with one click, and the functions are integrated into the learning platform’s teaching and reporting tools – making them significantly easier for teachers and students to use.
The App Library already contains a variety of free and paid apps. One such app is Kikora, which provides thousands of maths exercises for students to complete online. Johan Kvarving Vik, Kikora CEO, comments: “Schools who who run itslearning and want to try out Kikora simply look through the apps on offer, find Kikora and click Add. It takes about 10 seconds to have the school up and running.”
On 13 September 2011, Kikora passed a major milestone. One million exercises have now been completed in its software. The majority of these exercises were completed from itslearning.
itslearning believes the relaunch of the App Library, with an improved interface and searching will help teachers improve the learning process by expanding their use of digital tools in the classroom. Roger Stjernberg, global business development manager at itslearning, puts it this way: “For schools using itslearning, it’s much simpler to use an educational app directly through the App Library. They don’t have to log onto two different systems, and apps can be tied to itslearning’s reporting functions, so exercises can be marked automatically and grades can be exported directly to student and class reports. For teachers, it can be a huge time saver.”
The App Library has been available since 2010, but the newly designed interface will make it simpler for users to find and access educational apps
Roger is also convinced that the itslearning App Library is a perfect market place for software companies looking to reach a wider market. “We have millions of users around the world and any app added to the library immediately becomes visible to them. And it’s simple to do. All companies need to do is register their app using our open API.”
