Helsinki students get innovative by using ePortfolio as resume
Ever wish you had more to show off in a job interview? Helsinki Business College students have realized the power of the itslearning ePortfolio to collect both practical and education experience in one easily-accessible spot. They list their education and work experience in the ePortfolio, which they then submit as part of job applications.
It´s no secret that Finland is known for being innovative in education. In this great practical example, itslearning and the HBC teamed up to give a real-world world example of Finnish ingenuity. Best of all – this practice is available to all itslearning users. Plus it´s pretty straightforward. The idea is simply using an itslearning feature you know and love – the ePortfolio – in a new and innovative way.
The students took it one step further. They filled their ePortfolios with videos where they demonstrated things like customer service and language skills. Both of these skills are difficult to show proficiency of on a traditional CV. In the short video clips, they simulate a situation (for example, a scenario involving customer interaction) to demonstrate real-world proficiency.
Out with the old (listing proficiencies under the ´Skills´ section of your CV) and in with the new (recording yourself successful handling a real-life scenario). Who would you hire?
